About One Voice Chorus
Our Mission
One Voice is the LGBTQIA+ and allies chorus of Charlotte. Through artistic excellence, One Voice Chorus works to increase understanding and acceptance of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual people. Our achievement in choral music enables us to reach diverse groups to overcome misperceptions, and to grow personally, both as performers and as leaders in our community.

Summer Show Director – Job Description
Under the supervision of the OVC Board President and Artistic Director, the Summer Show Director will assist in the coordination, facilitation, and leadership of the artistic vision and operations for the One Voice Chorus Summer Show. The Summer Show Director is a contracted, seasonal, part-time position that would include mainly in-person work. For timeline, initial meetings and prepwork would begin in January, rehearsals would begin in late March, and performances would take place in late June.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinates with the Artistic Director on Theme, design and material of the show. (Note: the final decision on show content lies with the AD)
- Assist AD in auditions as needed for features, guest performers, etc (Again, final decision will lie with the AD)
- Coordinates with AD, President, and Executive Director to determine the need for additional support (i.e. Choreographer, Stage Manager, Sound/Tech Support) and assists in staffing those positions as needed.
- Coordinates with AD and any other production staff on Set Design, Costuming, Props, and other necessary elements to create a cohesive show.
- Develop a rehearsal schedule with the AD and any other production staff to ensure adequate preparation and deadlines.
- Attend necessary rehearsals to oversee preparation of the production numbers. (Musical preparation will be the responsibility of the AD. Director will assist in maintaining rehearsal schedule)
- Coordinates with Production Committee to purchase or create assets for production
- Coordinate with Charlotte Ballet staff on Sound and lighting design and application.
- Coordinate with ED and President for rental of sound equipment and risers/other set pieces.
- Present for Load In, tech rehearsal, dress rehearsal to oversee production elements and provide notes
- Create Call sheet for production week including all rehearsals and performances outside of normal rehearsal schedule
- Coordinate with guest artist (i.e. Drag performers, Emcee, band members, etc.) during performances
- Attend and lead all production meetings to ensure all production timelines are on track and have the needed support for execution.
- Attend all performances and ensure adequate stage management as necessary during production.
- Create and execute Load Out schedule/tasks for closing night and coordinate with President, ED, AD to ensure all materials are removed from space
- Assist in promoting the performance as needed
- Any additional duties as assigned by the AD or Board of Directors as it relates to the successful execution of the contracted show.
In addition to these tasks, the Summer Show Director must be willing to accommodate all members of One Voice Chorus with varying levels of experience, mobility, and skill. The Director must also comply with standards of conduct set forth by OVC in the Member Handbook and as otherwise set forth by the Board of Directors.
Most importantly, this is a collaborative endeavor between the Director and the Staff and Members of OVC. All parties should strive to work harmoniously to create a safe space and enjoyable production that supports the ongoing mission of OVC and uplifts our community.
Education/Experience
BA or BFA in Theatre, Musical Theatre, Directing, or Technical Theatre preferred with experience directing at least 5 different productions. Specific emphasis given for individuals who have experience in working with a large Chorus in a previous experience.

Compensation & Payment Schedule
$750+ depending on experience. This would be paid in full on the evening of the final summer show performance.
Timeline
