Sing with One Voice

Join Charlotte’s LGBTQIA+ and allies chorus. Come sing this Tuesday!* No audition, no waiting for a window, no commitment required.

*(September through June)

Why One Voice Chorus?

Join one of Charlotte’s largest queer cultural organizations! Sing music that changes lives—maybe even your own—make new friends, discover talents you didn’t know you had, and enjoy the talents of others. It’s self-discovery, it’s community-building, and it’s the joy of group singing!

Everyone is welcome here. Our singers come from every walk of life, in every shape, size, and shade. That diversity makes us strong strong and lets us show Charlotte a proud, positive LGBTQIA+ face and voice. We are your friends, neighbors, coworkers and family.

Through OVC I have not only reconnected with my love of choral singing, but I have also found a beautiful new community of chosen family and a confidence to celebrate my identity.

Choose Your Path

Start Here

OVC Community

No audition, no seasonal window, no obligation to attend every week.

  • Sing pop songs, activist songs, and easy arrangements alongside a live piano
  • Work toward an audition, or just enjoy singing with no pressure to perform
  • Attend 8 rehearsals in a cycle and get a free ticket to that concert
  • Join outreach performances and social events as a full part of the OVC family
Auditioned Mainstage

One Voice Chorus

Our performing ensemble. Takes the stage at every mainstage concert of the season.

  • Open auditions each year in late August; if you’ve completed a full OVC Community concert cycle, you can also audition mid-year
  • Once you’re in, you’re in — no need to re-audition each year to keep your spot
  • You are still invited and encouraged to participate in OVC Community
Chamber Ensemble

Chroma

A more advanced auditioned ensemble that rehearses separately (Monday nights) and takes on more complex repertoire.

  • Open to current One Voice Chorus members in good standing
  • Auditions held on a rolling basis at the end of each concert cycle

How a Tuesday Works

Our season takes place from September through June. We rehearse most Tuesdays during that period from 6:30-9:30pm, and you can drop in to any rehearsal for the first hour!

*Please note: It’s always a good idea to contact us prior to dropping in as some rehearsals especially near concert times may be held at different locations or times.

auditions

Open auditions for One Voice Chorus are held in late August before the season begins.

Auditioning for One Voice Chorus is meant to be simple and low-pressure—like a short, friendly conversation. You’ll meet one-on-one with the Artistic Director for about 10–15 minutes. Expect a brief vocal warm-up, a few short pitch and rhythm echo-back exercises, and a brief, simple sight-reading exercise. This is just a chance to see how you approach something new. If you’d like to bring a short prepared song to share, you’re welcome to, but it’s not required. There’s no pass/fail in the traditional sense: however it goes, you’re already part of the OVC family walking in the door, whether that lands you on the performing stage right away, or in OVC Community to continue honing your skills.

Please note that auditions take place at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church (not the same as the rehearsal location)!
