One Voice Chorus of Charlotte (OVC) is proud to announce their upcoming Spring Concert and outreach programs.
“For many people in the queer community, the world can sometimes feel dark and cold as if spring might
never arrive,” said OVC Executive Director Micah Deer. “In this, our 35th season, dispelling that cold
darkness is more important than ever. The music in this season’s spring programs is a labor of love born
of musically uplifting inclusivity.”
Both the spring concert and outreach performance are comprised of songs by exclusively queer
composers that span from inspiring and thought-provoking, to upbeat and energetic.
“Our spring shows this season embody our mission of furthering queer acceptance and understanding
through artistic excellence,” said OVC Artistic Director Cory Davis. “The music was composed by queer
artists from a wide range of ethnicities and backgrounds, and includes poetry by extraordinary writers like
Paul Laurence Dunbar, Sara Teasdale, and James Wheldon Johnson. In this challenging and uncertain
time for our community, our hope is that our performance can highlight the incredibly important
contributions of queer artists throughout history. We hope this unabashedly queer art will speak to the
community in a way that is both enlightening and compassionate.”
“The season of spring is a time of new warmth, growth and wonder,” said OVC President Matthew
Barbour-Kluttz. “We’re looking forward to shaking off the cold and sharing spring’s magical
transformation through our music.”
