Why One Voice Chorus?
Join us and be a part of one of Charlotte’s largest queer cultural organizations! Sing music that changes lives (maybe even your own), to make new friends, discover talents you didn’t know you had, and enjoy the talents of others! This is self-discovery, it’s community-building, and it’s great singing!
Everyone is welcome in One Voice Chorus. No auditions required. Our singers come from all walks of life — in all shapes, sizes and shades. It’s this diversity that makes our organization strong and helps present a positive LGBTQIA+ face and voice to the public. We are your friends, neighbors, coworkers and family.
Many of our singers have also found a LGBTQIA+ “family” in One Voice. It’s part of our mission to offer a welcoming place for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people and straight allies to grow both personally and as performers. As a result, many singers have been with the group for more than a decade — some for over 20 years. In addition, LGBTQIA+ men, women, and non-binary persons new to the city often find the chorus as their entry point into the local LGBTQIA+ community.
The chorus serves as a impactful yet accessible way for some of our singers to reveal their orientation to those around them. One singer has said, “Our concerts are the only times of the year when my relatives and coworkers participate in something so completely gay-positive… and celebrate and applaud me in the process. It’s powerful.”
Finally, we also need non-singing volunteers to help the chorus run smoothly. We welcome volunteers who bring a variety of talents: marketing, fundraising, set building, costume design, rehearsal support, concert support, photography and reception planning. There’s a place for everyone in this chorus!
