Drumroll Please … Our 2013-2014 Season Reveal!

What’s in store for One Voice’s new season? LOTS! According to Artistic Director Gerald Gurss the coming season will feature many original compositions that speak to our collective power to bring about change. Says Gurss, “Since the excellent performance by One Voice at the 2012 GALA Festival in Denver, the chorus has grown musically in such a way that, we can sing more challenging repertoire. I’m excited to hear One Voice give life to the special pieces we have in store!”

First up is the One Voice Holiday show, Naughty & Nice, where we’ll juggle traditional and not-so-traditional Christmas fare. You’ll hear classics such as “Joy to the World” and “I Wonder as I Wander” as well as an original piece called “Very Merry North Carolina Christmas” that asks Santa to return some rights people have lost this year thanks to the state legislature. We promise you’ve never heard a holiday song like this one! | Friday, Dec 6, 7:30PM and Saturday, Dec 7, 2:00PM & 7:30PM; Unitarian Universalist Church of Charlotte

In February, Sotto Voce—the small ensemble of One Voice—will again hold a recital that’s sure to delight the ear and inspire the heart. If you’ve yet to attend one of these recitals, you’re missing out. We’ll keep you posted on the date and place for this special event.

Come Spring, with a grant from the Charlotte Lesbian and Gay Fund, One Voice will shed light on a critical issue within the LGBT community: Homeless LGBT Youth. With the help of Time Out Youth and Urban Ministries, the chorus will share some of their stories in a video and musical documentary—both to premier at our spring concert, Home. The concert will also celebrate the families LGBT people create for themselves. Watch future issues of CommunityNotes for more details about this special project and concert. | Friday & Saturday, April 11 & 12, 7:30PM; Heaton Hall at Myers Park Baptist Church

Last but certainly not least, our Hollywood Squares concert will return, and this year it’s all about the Divas! Featuring Barbara, Cher and more, the event is part retro game show and part concert … all with the same irreverent fun audiences have come to expect. We’ll be selling general admission tickets and VIP tables again. We’ll also be serving up costumes, choreography and camp (oh my!). | Thursday & Friday, June 19 & 20, 8:00PM; North Carolina Dance Theatre

Tickets for these shows will be available online in the weeks preceding the concert. Proceeds help fund the chorus’s work to increase inclusion and equality for the LGBT community.
