Cory Davis joins One Voice Chorus as Artistic Director

May 22, 2019 | Charlotte, NC – Following a national search, One Voice Chorus will begin their 30th season with new Artistic Director Cory Davis. “I am excited for the opportunity to work with a group that values excellence in performance, engagement with its community, and creating experiences that emphasize our shared humanity,” Davis said.

Along with Davis’ 12 years of experience in choral conducting and nonprofit development management, he earned his Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting from Temple University in 2018.  Cory was the recipient of the Elaine Brown Tribute Award, given to a choral conducting student who most reflects the musicianship, dedication to excellence, and humanitarianism that distinguished her career. Davis received his Bachelor of Arts in Music from The George Washington University.

Cory has worked with numerous singing groups including Voices Chorale of New Jersey, Marple Christian Church, Philadelphia Voices of Pride, Gaithersburg Chorus, and Runnymede singers. Last summer Cory was selected to participate in a choral-orchestral conducting workshop with John Alexander, Robert Istad, and David Hayes.

Davis’ work in several non-profit organizations – including Project HOME, Chorus America, and Washington Concert Opera – primarily focused on development and operations management.

Davis’ programming plans for One Voice’s 2019-2020 mainstage season are well under way. This season will include performing at the quadrennial Gay And Lesbian Association (GALA) Festival where choruses from all over the globe gather to share their music.

As Davis notes, LGBTQIA choruses remain a vital cultural bridge: “Singing together is so important because it breaks down barriers between people, builds empathy, and adds meaning to our lives.”

Cory and his partner Brian will move from Philadelphia to Charlotte this summer in time to begin rehearsals for the 2019-2020 season.
