Who’s the best LGBT arts organization in Charlotte? According to the recently published “QList: Best of LGBT Charlotte,” we are!
We’re making our list and checking it twice because we want everything perfect for this year’s holiday concert, Naughty & Nice, December 6 & 7! As the name implies, you can expect both traditional and not-so-traditional Christmas fare at this event.
You may have seen One Voice in concert, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to serving our mission. Every year, One Voice and our small ensemble Sotto Voce perform at social justice rallies, vigils, LGBT fundraisers, worthwhile community organizations and most anywhere else our presence can support equality and inclusion in Charlotte. We call these performances “run outs.”
What’s in store for One Voice’s new season? LOTS! According to Artistic Director Gerald Gurss the coming season will feature many original compositions that speak to our collective power to bring about change. Says Gurss, “Since the excellent performance by One Voice at the 2012 GALA Festival in Denver, the chorus has grown musically in such a way that, we can sing more challenging repertoire. I’m excited to hear One Voice give life to the special pieces we have in store!”
Charlotte Pride 2013 continues to expand, and so does One Voice’s presence at the event. We again operated our booth where we met hundreds of festival goers at the 2-day event and invited them to grab a prop and strike a pose. But this year also featured two new and exciting ways for the chorus and other LGBT-affirming organizations to participate!
Our 2012-2013 concert season covered a full spectrum of choral artistry, as well as offering lots of laughter … all while serving our LGBT-affirming mission. It was, as the season’s theme promised, absoBLOODYlutely amazing!
